Company History
R W Crawford Agricultural Machinery, founded by Bob Crawford in October 1980, initially focused on the buying and selling of used farm machinery. Over the years, our expertise has evolved, and we now specialise in sales, servicing, and parts for farm machinery and 4×4 vehicles. Our headquarters is located in Writtle, just outside Chelmsford, Essex.
In 2001, we proudly became a Massey Ferguson franchise dealer, marking the beginning of a fruitful partnership with AGCO. Building on the success of the Massey Ferguson franchise, we expanded our offerings in 2003 by adding the Challenger franchise to our portfolio. Recognising our continued growth and achievements, we subsequently secured another AGCO franchise, Fendt. We invite you to explore our range of used Fendt tractors.
To enhance our presence in Kent, we established the Challenger franchise from our Essex depot, whilst also serving Kent. In 2005, we were awarded the Fendt franchise and aimed to replicate the success of our Essex depot in Kent.
After careful consideration, we identified a location near Junction 8 of the M20, secured planning, and on Wednesday, June 26, 2013, our state-of-the-art farm machinery dealership in Charing, near Ashford, Kent, welcomed its first customers.
Following the resounding success of our new Charing depot, we laid a strong foundation for future growth. This enabled us to expand our offerings even further. In early 2014, we proudly announced the addition of the Valtra and Isuzu franchises at our Charing depot, broadening our range of high-quality products and services.
Building upon our success, we relocated our original Essex depot to Writtle, at a purpose-built, state-of-the-art dealership in 2018. From here, our business experienced exponential growth, leading to the establishment of a depot in Billingshurst, West Sussex, in 2019. We continued to expand with the opening of a new depot in Ropley, Hampshire, in 2021.
As part of the Crawfords Group, which includes Crawfords, Agwood, and Crawfords Automotive, we offer an extensive range of products and services tailored to meet your farming and automotive needs. In 2022, our group expanded its offerings by acquiring Agwood, further strengthening our position in the industry.
